The Howard Hospital Foundation recently inducted new members into its Leadership Council. Each member of the Leadership Council has contributed at least $100,000 to Howard County General Hospital in lifetime giving, demonstrating outstanding commitment to maintaining excellence in healthcare and wellness services for all. A Leadership Council dinner on May 5 treated guests to fine dining at Aida Bistro, followed by a presentation by Dr. Michael Cranfield, director of animal health, research, and development at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, project director of Morris Animal Foundation's Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project (MGVP), and member of the comparative medicine faculty at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Cranfield discussed the One Health Approach to Gorilla Conservation, explaining the importance of human health and quality of life as they relate to the overall health of any environment. In his sphere of influence, by helping the human caretakers, trackers, tourists and local residents practice adequate hygiene and living habits he and his team also decrease the likelihood of contagion between human and primates.
