The Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center with the support of Howard County General Hospital, The Howard Hospital Foundation and The Horizon Foundation, have partnered to offer patient navigation services to help cancer patients, families, and caregivers locate the resources and services they need.
How can a Patient Navigator help you?
- By providing literature on coping with cancer, what to expect during chemotherapy and radiation, and dealing with side effects of treatment.
- By referring you to support groups, classes and other programs for information and support.
- By helping you identify resources for financial assistance, medication needs, home health care, insurance questions, transportation and other concerns.
- By teaching cancer survivors how to locate and utilize essential services and resources.

Access to good information about all cancer treatment options is critical to enable cancer patients and their families and caregivers to communicate better with physicians and take an active role in developing their best plan of care.
With more than 600 books, pamphlets, video and audio tapes, and computers with internet access, the library provides current cancer information and resources in a warm and inviting setting.

The Center includes a fully-equipped salon for men and women. Licensed hairdressers, cosmetologists for makeup consultation, and prosthesis professionals offer free consultations. They also provide products and services that can enhance patients’ self-image, including a complete line of wigs and wig cuts, styling and fittings. The Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center offers prosthesis services through a partnership with Comfort Care, a prosthesis company in Howard County. Trained staff provide fittings for breast forms, lingerie, lymphedema stockings and other products. To make an appointment, call 410-740-5858.
