For the second consecutive year, Howard County General Hospital has received the
HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ – a prestigious award that recognizes the top five
percent of hospitals in the United States. HCGH is one of only 269 hospitals in the nation to receive this distinction from HealthGrades in 2010.
This latest award comes on the heels of another significant HealthGrades’ recognition for HCGH. In October 2009, the independent healthcare ratings company ranked HCGH number one in Maryland in the areas of Gastrointestinal Surgery and Critical Care.
HealthGrades identifies award winners by reviewing Medicare hospitalization records at nearly 5,000 hospitals across the United States to determine their mortality and complication rates. According to the eighth annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence study, HCGH and the other top hospitals demonstrated patient outcomes that were far better than those of other hospitals.
The number one priority of every employee, physician and volunteer at HCGH is providing the highest quality of care to our patients and their loved ones. It is gratifying that a leading independent organization such as HealthGrades has confirmed this.
