A CT scan (sometimes referred to as Cat Scan) provides images in several different planes, allowing radiologists to see detailed pictures of the body without surgery. Depending on the type of exam your physician orders, you may have to drink a flavored liquid before your exam (oral contrast) and/or receive an injection of contrast material. Contrast allows for better visualization of certain organs within the body. The CT equipment has a table for the patient that goes through a “doughnut” and exams usually take from 5-20 minutes.
Abdomen or Pelvis - Please pick up the oral contrast and further instructions from our Radiology waiting room.
CT Exam with IV Contrast - If you are 50 years or older, please make sure you have your blood work (BMP - BUN, Creatine).
Head, Brain, Mastolds, Temporal Bones, IAC, Orbits or Chest - Nothing to eat or drink three hours prior to your appointment, except for medication you may routinely take.
